"The old rule WASN'T voted on by the membership before it was made a bylaw in the first place!"
That's not true Bob. The old rule WAS voted upon by the membership. However, at that time all that was required was that votes be taken at the annual meeting with a majority in attendance deciding on these issues. All that was required was that the proposal be submitted to the President in writing who would see to it that the proposal was published in the magazine issue prior to the convention.... and I recall position statement pro and con regarding the issue were published. The final vote WAS taken at the annual convention membership meeting by the members in attendance. Many club members who could not attend the annual meeting petitioned the Board to present these matters to the entire membership, via a mail ballot ... and that's what we got. About a 60% participation in 2001 .... still better than what the club got at the annual convention meetings.
Jim Perlowski will testify to his amendment that was voted on as well. This 2001 ammendment was not the only amendment change voted upon by club members as I've read in an earlier post by someone.
Perhaps the club could consider going back to voting at the annual meetings, with proxies being allowed for those who are unable to attend? At least the issues could be thoroughly discussed .... which was sorely lacking on Marv Weaver's proposal.
