I would like to note that even the author Thomas
C. Day (see page-88; current club magazine)
states:

"The collection of early Monte-Carlo chips poses
special challenges. Dating the pieces is nearly
impossible, as mintage figures are unavailable, as
are records indicating the number of pieces
retired from circulation."

This is also somewhat the case with material
issued in the last 20-years, as it's been noted by
some European collectors that the casino has
reproduced some issues looking similar to previous
issue with slight color variations in the gold
lettering or laminate pigment (to conform with
tradition, I guess).

Unless one is in constant contact with the casino
(as most locals are in other gaming jurisdictions)
it would be close to impossible to figure out what
was produced, when.

Though Thomas C. Day did an excellent job in
compiling his work "Casino Tokens of Monte-Carlo"
with what information he had available at that
time, there have been many other chips, jetons and
plaques turn up since his last reprint in The
Numistmatist; some denominations having several
variations as well.

I would also like to note that the ANA no longer
publishes Day's article. Also, the ANA granted me
permission to reprint the article (2-parts) in our
club magazine so it would not be lost to history.
I've asked Editor John Yee to include a note in
the second part of the article stating if you feel
you learned something from the article to send a
$1 donation to the ANA Library:
