Amy,
Can you clarify your statement a little bit?
I collect both house and limited editions. I tend to collect the LE's because I like the artwork or because I was in town when they were released. (Good example--the Riviera Nevada Day chips released last year. I don't think they are spectacular, but I was staying there the day they were released. They'll be a good memory in 20 years.)
The thing is, I don't see a whole lot of "unsavory type sellers". Maybe I've been lucky. Living in Ohio, I don't get the chance to be at the casinos for the release of new chips very often. I'm thankful that there are guys like Dave Harber and Josh Shore. I've dealt with them and a few others, and found them all to be honorable people. Actually, I don't know that I've run into anyone I'd consider "unsavory". (and no, I'm not a people-person by nature -- just ask the product development group at my company)
Yes... I also get frustrated when I go to the cage 2 hours after a chip was released and find out that they are all gone. I wish the casino executives could come up with a way to manage this such that people who are there can get one and people who aren't there (like me the other 20 holidays of the year) can still get one at a fair cost from the dealers. I don't think a few dollars per chip added cost is unfair, especially when they had to drive over there, wait in line, front their own cash hoping someone will buy, etc...
