I was having a similar problem. But up here in the north, the orchids have to stay inside because of the cold.
I found that my chips were multiplying much faster than my orchids. I tried fertilizing less often and tried different formulas of fertilizer. But alas, the chips overran the downstairs area of the house and most of the living room. The chips were all over the place!
Finally I found a partial solution that has kept those nasty chips from taking over more and more space - I now spend 20 hours a week dumping on them on Ebay. The work is hard but I am recovering my living room, little by little.
I think I noticed a similar problem in your indoor living area, although it was much neater and restricted to the one room. Let me know if you need any help.
