Ok, it works.
Previously, the red X would appear in a message that had no text in it, only if:
1) There was no text in the body of the message, AND
2) there was nothing filled in in the Optional Link URL box and Optional Link Title box.
Since many people have something in those boxes all the time, I didn't feel like the red X was really serving the purpose I had intended.
I wrote the author of the software and he send me a modification to the code that I installed today. Now, as long as you don't type anything in the body of the message, the red X will show up, even if you have a link defined in the box or an image defined in the box.
I think that serves our purposes here much better.
