The Fremont hub is on the same blank as the actual Fremont chip is. I am sure you are aware of the Non-Duplicate guarentee from all distributors. Inlays added to the counterfeit one are so close they fooled everyone including us. It takes a VERY sharp person to tell the difference. I would not have known if I had not been told what to look for. I doubt if this would have even been detected if not for a Reno dealer discovering a hoard of a rare chip. No one knows if the Fremont ever detected them.
I have tried to investigate this chip ever since I was made aware of it. I believe the Fremont $25 chip is part of a counterfeiting scheme involving the distributor of the mold and/or an employee of The Burt Co. I have good reason to believe the culprits operated out of St Louis, Mo in the 1950's. I think there are other casino's chips like it, on other molds, out there. Unfortunetly no one still alive that has any knowledge of this is willing to be quoted. In fact, I lost a very good source of information on old chips, because I let him know I was researching an article on the Fremont $25. Howdy had a good article on the Fremont chip in the club magazine a few years ago if any new chippers are interested.
Jim Perlowski agrees in part with this theory. The distributor or Burt would have to be involved. I will let him post the rest of his theory if he wants to.
