GEE Don...
I openly ADMITTED I might be a few words off...<BG>
Do you think nice WASP Midwestern girls learn "casino" lingo in Spanish? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I gave up using my HS Spanish my first year in Arizona. I was 19 years old in '81 <G> and "thought" my 4 years made me "fluent". I was working at a department store when I proudly used my Spanish for the first "real" time. See, a customer bought something large, but had taken the bus to the Mall.
So in proper Castillan Spanish, I asked, "¿Tiene un coche?" (Do you have a car?)
He looked surprised and said "No, no tengo. ¿Tiene Usted?" (No I don't. Do YOU?) Thinking he wanted a ride- I answered: "Si yo tengo, pero es a mi casa." (Yes I do, but it's at home.) The customer LAUGHED until he cried... and when he left - he was literally howling.
later, I asked a friend, "WHAT DID I SAY?"
She said, "Around here - "coche" is slang. You asked him if he had a PIG. He said, "NO." but asked, "Did YOU?" and you said "Yes - at home." <VBG>
OK!! I'M SORRY!!! I will refrain from "translation" duty from here on in!
<VVVBG!>
ps Greg: if you find a decent translater, will you get ME some chips?? <hehehe>
