I have posted Bill boreland's story several times. Actually others know more about him than I do as they knew him and did business with him. I did not.
Bill was a Matre De in LV.
He was a pioneer in our hobby. He wrote the 1st chip guide that I am aware of.
He opened a store and was dealing in chips. Somewhere along the line he decided to make souvineer chips and put them in key chains. He soon found out that he could sell more if he sold them as real chips, although he did not sell them at high prices. He talked BJ into making coin inly Silverbird and Holiday International chips. He also bought the NV and DiCard molds from BJ. BJ went berserk when he found out Boreland was putting the coin inlays out as real chips.
Bill ordered blank NV and DiCard chips and hotstamped them in his store. Most are aligned front and back. Not sure why he did this. Ir was a lot of trouble. Maybe so he could tell what he made and what was real. <g>
Many of the chips were sold to collector/dealers that thought they were real, some still do.
Bill also had an eye for the LV ladies of the evening. He once paid them with counterfit DI 100's. I think from what I heard, there was big trouble over this one.
Bill also sold the European collectors counterfits. Maybe more than in the US.
Bill was good for the hobby in many ways.
BUT
Bil1 did the most harm ever to our hobby IMO. That is up untill now. (Slabs)
Bill is now in chip heaven.
Short version.
