Ever watch the Home Shopping Network or similar?
This may be the type market the slabbers may decide entering after they learn we're not interested in their lower-end material. (Yes, I know, Gene, you're not interested at any level. Spare us <g>).
When I say "we're not interested" I'm referring to
your $9.99 example.
Their services may still be available for those who
want a certified slabbed chip at much higher levels; material that has been graded by experts (per slabbers claim).
The collectors (call them what you want, but please
do not debase investors; I'm one of many in our
hobby along with being a collector) who purchase
chips at the $1000-$3000-$5000+ level may very well
have a need to have their chip(s) certified (or
whatever they wish to call it) for future
transaction(s) (very few of us take our chips with
us) and I do not believe that those
purchases/certifications/gradings/slabbings will
have any effect on the lower, lesser priced chips
the majority of us collect. I may be wong, but I
think the material the majority of us collect will
be around for a very long time at very affordable
levels.
Yes, I've seen the new quarters that are slabbed, but will any of us buy one? I think not. I think it's the same with the $1 chip. We're not interested (as majority) in slabs at this level.
I don'y like Limburger cheese (Limburg,
Belgium), but I don't spit on it when I pass it in
the dairy (I may hold my nose, though <g>).
