The reason for my being on the list is simple. I don't think its good for our hobby.
Why do people like myself continue to post regarding this issue is also simple. It is to make others aware as to what slabbing is and how I feel it can affect this hobby negatively.
You might notice that on a regular basis we still get questions, What is slabbing? All one has to do is scroll down the board to see for oneself.
It is obvious that many people still don't know.
Once people are educated as to the pro's [I personally don't see any] and con's let the individuals make up their own minds.
If in the end the choice for them is slabbing, so be it. I however will not be amongst them. No one here is trying to buy votes, bully or harrass we are merely looking to get the message out, and then let each person decide for themselves.
My personal feeling is that the only one's that benefit from this slabbing situation are the slabbers.
Somewhere down the board someone mentioned that they thought $10 was a bit high for this service. As Gene Trimble pointed out this is an intoductory price and you ain't seen nuthin' yet.
Lets look at a typical scenario 2 guys walk into a casino and each buy a $25 LE
one decides to have his slabbed. He sends it to ICG who for a mere $20 will research it have a team of scientists look at it throgh an electron microscope. They will then have it measured with a micrometer, check the surface with a laser transit and examine the color with a color spectrum analyzer. After a short meeting of 2 or 3 hours they will come to a decision, slab the chip, give it a grade and return it to you. After all this your chip is now worth $25 except when you go to sell it you have to find a sucker to give you at least $45 to recover your slabbing fee.
The other guy that put his chip somewhere in his collection also has a $25 chip.
The differece is that it only cost him $25 Ok so it has a little fly t**d on it
but that gives the chip character <g>
In closing I have to say that it appears to me that the main reason that many people might be against the "LIST" is because the smell a big payday.
One might notice the absence of many of the large dealers.
When I joined I noticed that the club in its title used the word collector I would like to see that remain.
SLABBING ONLY ADDS TO THE COST.......NOT TO THE VALUE.....
