"From Marty Kaplan........
What you propose, censorship, is far more destructive than an economic boycott - for whatever reason.
Personally, I am not in favor of bans. Never really have been. I do not think they are enforceable nor policeable. However, I have no problem with one, or more, people exercising free market strength by buying from some dealers and not others.
I would hope that the "List" evolves into a full fledged Chapter and allow club members who want to enjoy a slab free hobby to do exactly that. A group of collectors that share a similar interest and belief that "Slabbin' ain't Chippin'" would be great! A strong voice against slabbing totally within the system.
From my vantage, admittedly anti-slab, I have seen the anti-slabbers behave tenaciously, unwaveringly, completely within reason and correctly. My hat is off to Gene, Andy, Archie, Jim Reilly, Jim Episale, Pete Sanders, Robert Touts, Steve Soden, Ralph Myers and list of others who have been leading the way.
Shame of it all is that I have also seen/read where the others (people either in favor of slabbing or openly uncommited) have brought forward unwarranted fears of potential (not even a clue that something might occur) improper behavior as well as unfounded claims of 'bullying'.
Actually it is kind of silly. Message Board posts urging people to sign up doesn't quite bring to mind the same mental image as 'bullying'. No one has to add their name to any list. Anyone can buy, sell, own or trade slabbed chips to their hearts content. The only negative effects are economic. People switch away from shows on TV that they do not like and the resultant lower ratings eventually take their toll in terms of lowered revenue for the stations. Here unpopular product on the shelves might bring about a similar result. But that is absolutely the only pressure out there. We all left peer pressure behind as sophomores in high school.
There is a distinct difference between limiting the product array within a private show, products from an auction, or declining certain display ads, as opposed to refusing to present a roster of members who are of common thought. I would print the "List" as certainly, and quickly, as I would print a list of pro-slabbing members is requested.
To me:
- Slabbing means my hobby could become just an investment property.
- Chipping is fun and I enjoy it.
- I bought dolphin safe tuna, and I'll buy slab-free chips. (ok, that's a stretch<g>).
But I won't buy into censorship.
Thanks for taking the time to read this far.

From Janice O'Neal........
"For crying out loud, John, don't you have anything else to do? Because one person in an un-named chapter somewhere suposedly made a rash statement about people not being on the list you want to condem our list and everyone on it.
You advocate letting the slabbing companies, if they so choose, advertise in our magazine BUT NOW you think we anti-slabbers should not have the right to advertise our beliefs in the very same magazine. Something is wrong with your thinking. We WILL carry on and we WIll do everything in our power to keep the slabbing companies OUT of our hobby.
No matter what you say I am whole heartedly IN FAVOR of keeping them out of our convention, out of our auction, out of our magazine, and out of our hobby.
Anyone wishing to engage in the slabbing industry is absolytely free to do so somewhere else. In fact it would be a great idea for them to have their very own convention. Then anyone wanting to take part in slabbing would have their own outlet. We would gladly leave them alone. All we ask in return is for them to leave our HOBBY and club alone, so we can go on enyoying it just
as we have for the past eleven years. Progress is great but slabbing is not progress. Janice O'Neal"
