... for club office has suggested "banning" slabbed chips.
>> I heard that some of you said that if elected
>> you will ban slapped chips in our hobby.
The CC>CC is the major organizational force in the hobby of chip collecting. It is not, however, a governmental agency. The club has no power and no authority to "ban" anything "in our hobby". We can act only with respect to the club's own venues.
I have said (repeatedly) that if I am elected, I will propose a resolution which will prohibit the sale of slabbed chips on the convention floor, prohibit the sale of slabbed chips in the club auction and prohibit the advertising of slabbed chips for sale in the club magazine.
>> So I hope Everyone will make their opionion public.
Everyone has made their opinion public -- several times.
>> I know one thing if our club would ban anyform of casino collectible
>> just because some people don't like it. I would not renew my dues for
>> the simply fact i don't like being told what i can collect and what
>> i can't.
No one is going to tell you what you can collect and what you can't collect. Every member can (and has to) make that choice for him or herself. My proposed resolution will NOT tell you what you can or cannot collect. It would, if adopted, place a restriction on the use of club venues for that purpose. Otherwise, you would be free to do as you choose.
>> Because who is to say that one day we are not allowed
>> to collect roulette chips anymore or any other type of chip.
The old "slippery slope" argument. Which, by the way, is one of the great fallacies of logical thinking. Just because we take one step, doesn't mean we have to take a second. If the members would not support a prohibition on the sale of roulette chips in club venues, it won't happen. Or, if it does, the board that creates the prohibition will get voted out of office and the new board will undo the unsupported rule.
The same thing will happen with respect to slabbing. If the new board prohibits the sale of slabbed chips via club venues and the membership wants to buy slabbed chips through those venues, the rule will get changed, one way or the other.
>> I just believe in freedom of choice.
>> And my vote goes to the candiates who believe in freedom of choice.
I believe in freedom of choice, too. And my choice is to say to the slabbers:
NOT IN MY HOBBY. NOT ON MY WATCH. NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT.
