(Bloomberg) -- Aztar Corp. plans a $225 million expansion of its Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, that includes increasing slot- machine capacity by 20 percent, the Philadelphia Inquirer said.
The expansion, which will bring the number of machines to 4,600, also includes plans for a 502-room convention tower and an elaborate retail, restaurant and entertainment complex, the paper said.
Phoenix-based Aztar announced the expansion earlier this month but withheld key details of the development until yesterday, when it reported fourth-quarter earnings.
Construction is expected to begin at the end of this year. The company hopes to finish the project by the end of 2003, about the same time Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming Corp. plans to finish its $1 billion Borgata casino in Atlantic City, the paper said.
