.....I know it's been almost 30 years since I took a class in chemistry, but I still remember that brass is an alloy metal made from copper and zinc. What alloy that looks just like brass and weighs less isn't brass?!? <G>
....maybe the heavier base metal in the brass alloy production was reduced, resulting in a lighter alloy. ...but unless another base metal was introduced into the end product, it'd still be brass. ....I'd suspect a reduction in zinc with little noticible difference in coloration, but I don't know, haven't looked at an atomic weight table since my last chemistry class, and don't have one handy.
Where is this club's resident chemist anyway! I miss her!
