Re: $2.50 Chip History?
In Response To: $2.50 Chip History? ()

The HCE mold $2.50's from Harold's Club and Sahara Tahoe are the earliest in my collection, Mark. Date to early 1960's. The N. Nevada clubs always liked this denomination more than the Las Vegas Clubs. I think most of the larger casinos in Reno and Tahoe had them in the 60's and 70's. Today, the only Strip casinos to use them are Sahara and New Frontier. Just noticed I don't have the blue BudJones New Frontier chip in the scan I posted.

It's interesting that the Frontier never used a 2.50 in the past, just introducing it with the last ownership change.

A Desert Inn 2.50 exists, but has been obsolete for as long as I have collected. I don't remember ever playing with one at the DI, either. Anyone know when it might have been used? It's a EWING mold, unusual for Las Vegas.
