$2.50 Chip History?

Don Lueders posted some nice scans of $2.50 chips the other day and I got to wondering about this denomination and when they started appearing. Hoping some of you will fill us newer folks in on that. Here’s what I do know. These chips are used to pay off a $5 natural 21 blackjack bet. Blackjack wasn’t that hot of a game until computer modeling in about 1959 formalized basic blackjack strategy and it became apparent the bettor could have success at this game if he played well. Still a $5 bet wasn’t that affordable at the time to warrant investing in “snapper” chips. Would late 80’s or 1990 be a better introduction for these chips? Who, where, when? The first? The bigger Las Vegas strip properties don’t use these as they’d rather have more $10 min. tables at busy times but AC seems to use $2.50 chips in all the casinos. Are $5 tables easier to find in AC than the Strip?
