>>>"I have seen some proposals that go as far as to ban dealers who sell slabbed chips from having a table at the Club convention. That is whether or not they are even attempting to sell slabbed chips at the convention. There are plenty of people angry enough about this issue to take even more dramatic steps".<<<
Charlie; I've not seen that proposal at all. Chip dealers who are club members and who might sell slabbed chips throughout the year are not "BANNED" from purchasing table space at the club's convention under any of the proposals I have read. They are permitted to sell any casino collectibe from their table except slabbed chips for three days out of the year. What prevents them from having a table at the convention?
You asked, "What if there appeared on the market a very rare, unique, chip that had some fragile quality to it. Like the Tahoe Village roulettes with the diecut metal inlays."
What do owners of these chips use to protect these chips prsently? There are plenty of capsules or inert plastic snap-cases or Air-Tight holders that are just as effective as a slab.... at a fraction of the cost.
"I believe every individual should be able to make up their own minds about the issue. I would say the majority of the club's members, those that do not follow this bulletin board, do not even know that there is a chip slabbing issue at this time."
I too believe what you and "Professor" Knapp believe also Charlie. Everybody should make up their own mind. I hope they do. But having said that, the newly elected officers have to make up their minds on what policy they wish to adopt for the club convention and magazine. As for your reference to club members who are not on line and may not be familiar with the current chip slabbing issue... they will be by the time the next issue rolls around ... or sooner. I can tell you that well over 100 subscribers to my A.C. New Issues Service (many of whom are not on-line) are well aware of the controversy. I'm doing my part in "educating" them.
