MY core issue, Bernie, with slabbing is lack of value in slabbing. These grading companies want at least $10 to tell us something we already know. There is not any significant demand for a grading system at this time that I'm aware of. C/W put our their grading proposal a couple years ago to general yawns and TCR ratings are hardly specific. I think most of us want to just see the chip or look at a decent scan to determine whether we want the chip. The slab companies want the $10 but what is the grading really worth? Next issue is the common abuses of slabbing in other hobbies these guys exploit, resubmission for higher grades in particular. Inflated chip prices also. Remember when one group bought the bulk of the Poker Palace $2.50 birthday chips this year so they could ask $10 for this ordinary chip? If they summit these for grading at $10 a pop what are they gonna ask then? Enough to make their investment back right away...$30 to $50 I's say! For a $5 chip. When this much money is flying around how long before someone like a grader decides to start carving out a bigger piece of the pie for themselves? I don't have any trouble saying "no" to things I consider bad for me and the hobby Bernie. Come on Bernie, you didn't need this service two months ago and you don't need it in 2001 either.
