I too am fairly new to the argument, but have been collecting chips for about 8 years.
Slabbing is the process of assigning a relitive valuation to an item by a "third party expert", and then encapsulating the item and labling the capsule. There is currently one company (the other two soon to follow, maybe) that has begun to slabb casino chips (currently done primarly in coins) and is trying to gain acceptance, (or at least admission) into the hobby and our club events.
The arguments revolve arround what effect this will have on the hobby and what position the "club" should take.
So as to not offend anyone, let me state that this is just my opinion of what slabbing is and what the issues are.
