In "Truman", David McCullough's biography of Harry S. Truman, there is an interesting reference to the "40/8" poker chips. Not to the chips per se, but to the "40/8" railroad cars of the AEF during WWI. I believe "Hommes" is French for "Men" & "Chevaux" for "Horse". I made a copy of the page and scanned it into a jpeg with two of the chips. (There is probably an easier way to do this?) I got these chips from John Benedict in an eBay auction. He was (and is!) a generous chipper; he sent me extras. I'm always amazed at the references to gambling that I come accross while reading American history.
Happy New Year!
