John; I too take the side of the anti-slab position. I also will abide by the wishes of the membership. However, I don't view at it as an "autocratic" solution at all. The membership elects club officers to decide on these controversial policy matters that pop up periodically. The heated discussion over Chapter Membership was not put for a vote before the entire membership. I would hope that the new 2001-2003 Board will take their responsibilites seriously and vote their conscience rather kick everything back to the membership to decide. After all, we're not talking about spending substantial amounts of the membership money, like for a building fund, or a dues increase, which may require membership approval. This slabbing issue really is a POLICY matter which belongs at the Board level.... in my opinion.
