Fireworks show will be explosive fun

Las Vegas' biggest blast will pack quite a punch.

The city's half-million-dollar fireworks show at 14

locations will last just 8 1/2 minutes, but in that time

an anticipated 250,000 spectators will see 120

shells exploding per second -- 13,000 in all.

"This is going to be one of the most spectacular

fireworks shows seen in the world," said Rob

Powers, vice president of communications for the

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

"It will rival anything anyone saw in conjunction with

New Year's Eve last year," he said.
