This shows your attitude Andy Hughes. Your lude picture of someone relieving themselves on a slabbed chip! You must be a younger collector or a child or be demented.(I would not want my children dealing with a person like you & hope my husband doesn't buy from you either!). Just what type of people are collecting chips? I hope Hughes doesnt speak for the majority but I feel he does with so many of you voting so against grading. I have only read recently about grading & slabbing. There is so much controversy in the hobby it really amazes me that most of you say grading will take out the fun! I dont think it is just about collecting, but this posting is what you are having fun with. It may be a lack of something else to do, why you are on here posting? Everyone seems to love a certain argument or debate. There is a certain fun in it to see the different peronalities here & lack of. This looks more like a "war" on this issue. I do agree with some posts for freedom of speech but this is maybe jealousy on the part that many of you probably cant afford to collect chips with just a $10 higher price tag. I realize many chips will go way up in value as more collectors come in. It was refreshing to see Mr. Wells speak out! By the way I love their price guide it is the only book my husband & I use. We have learned so much & he is more confident in his purchases. I think I will save that list of you "against slabbing" & in a few years attend one of your shows & see who "is" dealing in slabbed chips.
In other hobbies we have been involved in, & I do collect lots of things, we have seen when more people get into a hobby the values go up. Why wouldn't this happen with chips as well? As Wells said it is to attract other collectors. Maybe not all will want slabbed chips but if we get in more interested folks wouldnt that be better? Maybe a seperate club is needed for those who trade all the Indian chips & all those limited commemoratives that seem to be spilling over on the casino tables! Someone said that they were worth $7 ea. Where? We were lucky to get $5! No dealer would pay a penny more than face! Proud to be into the old chips now!
