Interpreting the slab poll...

It's amazing to me how some folks are interpreting the percentages regarding the poll now underway at the top of this bulletin board.

The way I read it is that a whopping 70% of the respondents are against slabbing, one way or another.

How did I arrive at that figure? Simple. 36% said that they were in favor of prohibiting slabs from being sold at the club's auction and in favor of prohibiting dealers who rent tables at the club's convention from selling slabs. 34% of the respondents were in favor of discouraging slabbing without actually banning it. That's a pretty awesome statistic. 70% would be considered a landslide in a political referendum ... which is what this issue has become.

There are still some who are under the impression that this is an outright ban; that nobody is allowed to purchase slabbed casino chips. Nothing could be further from the truth. We hear and read the buzzword "FREEDOM" being dramatically overplayed on this issue. The proposed restriction would be in effect for only for four days out of the year; during the club's annual convention. Collectors, dealers, investors, slab-lovers, slab-haters, can do what they want 361 days a year, before the convention begins and after the convention closes. You can do it in the privacy of your hotel room even when the convention is underway if you like.

Here in New Jersey, everyone is prohibited from purchasing an automobile from a car dealer on Sunday. Makes no difference if you are a Jersey resident or not. It's against the law, pure and simple. Go ahead, tell me that the state of New Jersey is violating all those citizen's FREEDOM rights.... when you can purchase that same car the day before Sunday and the day after Sunday. Look at it another way.... Just substitute the word "Sunday" for "CC & GTCC Convention" and I think several of you will now get the big picture.
