I will NOT buy any slabbed chip.
I will NOT have any slabbed chip in my collection.
I will NOT buy ANY chip from any dealer who sells slabbed chips.
I will NOT buy ANY chip from any dealer who grades chips for a slabbing service.
I will NOT do business of any kind with any dealer who participates in any way in the slabbing of
chips.
This "oath" which I voluntarily took was done so after reading many opinions on this board by those who have been collecting chips and coins and other collectible items for many years. I am truly a newcomer in field of collecting anything. Casino chips are the only thing I ever collected and that has only been for around 3 years.
This oath is very easy for me to carry out as I am a collector of inexpensive Limited edition chips, the values of which are around the $7.00 amount. Most people on this board know that I am not about to pay a premium for any chip, no less for one that has been slabbed.
I agree with John in so much as no one should be banned from collecting slabbed chips or anything else if he so wishes, and I also agree that anyone should be able to sell slabbed chips via any of the club facilities.
But in the interest of the body of chip collectors as a whole, I feel that these experts of long standing in the field of collecting know what they are talking about and that the slabbing of chips is harmful to our hobby.
I do not collect matches, swizzle sticks, bottles etc. and therefore do not even stop at any dealers booth that are selling these items at the convention. In the same instance, I will have no compulsion to visit any dealers booth that sells slabbed chips.
Possibly I am naive, but I believe that by boycotting dealers that might want to participate in slabbing, it will be enough of an incentive to not want to
take part in such a practice. I would suggest to any dealer to keep this current poll in mind, when and if anticipating to get into the slabbing of chips. Over half of the board participants are against slabbing.
Let any person, dealer or otherwise, sell what he wishes, but if we as a group uphold Andy's oath, the slabber will disappear.
Just as a footnote, my new chip service dealer from Las Vegas has signed this pledge and I know that my Colorado new service dealer as well as my Reno and Atlantic City source feels the same way. I recognize most all the people I trade with are also named on the polling list.
