Re: John B.

My apologies are extended to those who are about to be barraged with another long thread and rounds of charges and counter-charges about what happened in the past and who said what to whom. One could almost get the impression that I was a candidate for office for Christ's sake.... to read some folk's posts.

John; I have no desire to engage you in another long drawn-out thread, baring my soul for the benefit of some (who could care less) to take out of context. I stand by the decision the elected Board took during my terms of office regarding the ban of the sale of coins at our annual convention. I was elected as President of the Casino Chips & Gaming Tokens Collectors Club. I would hope that some officers on the current Board would have taken a more active role these past two years in taking actions and making decisions for the betterment of our hobby and club.

Once again, I'm forced to give a history lesson for the benefit of those club members and non-members who were not around back then. Please do not interpret my remarks as "talking down" to anyone. Unfortunately, this is my only venue that I have to state the facts and defend myself and the previous board's actions to those who want to re-live the past... and to explain to those who were NOT there what actually took place, rather than draw conclusions from an innuendo posted on this bulletin board. I'm proud of the record and accomplishments my fellow pro-active Board members took during our respective terms of office. I think we provided the leadership that was expected then, that will be re-ignited with the next slate of elected club officers.

This club was founded for the purpose of casino chips and gaming tokens collectors, not for the benefit of coin collectors. Coin collectors have their own organizations. In fact, when the club decided to begin holding conventions in Las Vegas, I was proud to serve as Convention Chairman for two of those shows at the old Aladdin. The club received several requests for table space at our conventions from coin dealers. We were not interested in putting on another coin show. There already was an established show at Union Plaza, sponsored by the Las Vegas Numismatic Society. Many of those members like Joe and Sue Dolce were, and still are, members of CC & GTCC. I gave my assurances that we would not be competing with them. The Board, with my recommendation, approved the policy that is still in effect to this very day that coins are not permitted to be offered for sale at dealers tables at the CC & GTCC Convention. It's in every contract, signed and agreed upon with dealers doing our show. I see nothing wrong with that contractual provision, nor has any Convention Chairman that has followed after me..... nor has the current administration seen fit to modify it. It has withstood the test of time. Perhaps, by you raising the flag, can change that. If so, sobeit.

Perhaps five or ten years down the road some will comment on this bb, "gee, I wish these annual CC & GTCC conventions didn't have so many coin dealers set up ... I thought this was a casino chips & gaming tokens collectors organization". "I remember when it was quite different. "It used to be so much fun." "I wonder how it got changed?"

Why do you suppose there is a national Paper Money Show, John? I can guarantee you, that it's not for coin dealer's benefit ... although many of them do handle coins. In fact, are you aware that the original name for TAMS (Token & Medal Society) was Token & Medal and Paper Money Collectors, until the Paper Money Collectors withdrew from that organization?

I don't think we want to go there John.
