Some interesting points have been brought up on both sides of the issue. I can seereasons that someone could be on either side. I think that for the club to ban something like slabbing is unfortunate. I agree that the free market should dictate, and we should be able to vote with our dollars. Only a handful (upwards of 50 as a basic guess)of people in the club have spent over $500 or $1000 cash for a chip. These are the people who would be most affected by slabbing. With 4000+ members, these 50 or so people will be left out as a silent voice. If a person only collects LE's or current house chips, why would they care about slabbing? Would people start charging $30 for a current $5 or $1 chip?
Archie mentioned that he lost interest for coin collecting when his specialty was adversely affected by slabbing. I personally lose interest in the club when people start talking of banning things. Why aren't fantasy chis banned from the convention? These have caused more harm up to this point then slabbing has! Please remember that many chips only exist in quantities for 1 or 2. Slabbing them has no bearing on the price! People will charge what people will pay. Sometimes dealers are happy to pack their chips home with them for the next show.
I have said it before, and I will make my position clear again. The only purpose of the club, in my opinion is to put out a magazine 4 times a year, and to hold a convention. Anything outside of this is not an issue that needs to be handled by the club.
This is only my opinion, and I feel strongly about it.
