The club doesn't have authority to ...

... ban "the whole process" anyway, Jim (though your resistance to authority resonates with me!).

The issue is whether the club will permit the use of its venues (the convention floor, the club auction, the magazine, etc.) to promote a practice which many (if not most) of the people who have thus far expressed an opinion find abominable. It seems reasonable to conclude that those with strong feelings are more likely to express them, so the opposition among the club membership as a whole may not be as high (or a vehement) as we have seen here. But, it seems likely to me that most club members will be opposed to slabbing.

The issue then, as I see it, is very simple -- are we going to permit club resources to be used to promote slabbing? Is the club going to profit financially from slabbing (which it will if slabbing plays any part in the generation of dealer table fees, auction profits or magazine advertising)?

Anyone who wants to buy or sell slabbed chips (or, for that matter, to slab chips) would still be free to do so anywhere outside club activities and I for one wouldn't even think of suggesting that the club try to prevent people from doing so. ----- jim o\-S
