There are some fundamental differences between coin and chip collecting. Coin collecting is much more of a "business" when compared to chip collecting. There are many, many individuals who make a living selling coins. Some of them see coin collecting as a business only and have no interest in the hobby other than to make a buck. This is not the case with casino chips. Virtually all chip dealers are collectors and there are very few dealers who make a living selling chips. People who sell chips, do it because they enjoy doing in.
The grading services could care less about the chip collecting hobby. They are only interested in grading chips for one reason ... TO MAKE MONEY. They will do anything they can in order to make a buck, whether is good or bad for the hobby. Be careful with whom you get into bed with.
Regardless of the rarity or value of a chip, I will not own a slabbed chip.
