I do not support the grading system in the Guide. I do support a grading system however. Condition may be the magic word, but a system is necessary to make sure that the words we use to describe the condition are not misunderstood.
There is one collector who I have noticed sometimes describes a chip by saying it stands on its rim or some such language. I have always assumed that what he meant was that the edges are sharp and not rounded. Perhaps I am wrong.
I suppose someone could say that and mean that their is such a large chip in the rim that it has a flat side.
If we can agree on the words we will use to describe the condition of a chip, we have a grading system. It need not be numerical it just needs to be uniform.
