I am not in favor of slabbing chips. While I am not totally in tune with all the problems and effect of slabbing in other hobbies, I just don?t see the need for it in chip collecting. There is no denying that a chip in better condition is worth more than the same chip in lesser condition but I trust knowledgeable collectors to set their own prices as opposed to a grading service and a price guide. When I buy a chip, I want to be able to hold it in my hand and feel it. I want to examine it closely and I want to be able to display it in a manner that I choose, not in a slab.
Regarding the "official" price guide, I see the use of that word as a marketing tool. I do not think we need a resolution to say that it is not the "official CC>CC" guide. Again, knowledgeable collectors will ultimately decide what is accurate. We certainly do not need our officers spending time working on resolutions. The members and collectors will decide with their pocketbooks.
This is a fun hobby and club and we should keep it that way.
