Congressmen Call for Indian Casino Probe, Boston Globe Says
(Bloomberg) -- Two members of Congress are calling for a congressional investigation into the Indian gaming industry, focusing on profits made by non-Indian casino managers and the process for approving tribes' gaming privileges, the Boston Globe reported.
A recent series of articles in the Globe said the $10 billion-a-year industry benefits only a few tribes and their financial backers, while most American Indians get little or nothing. In one example, the backer of the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut reaped $800 million, the Globe said.
``It's gone beyond the point of helping Indians, to the point where the process is very corrupt,'' U.S. Representative Christopher Shays, a Connecticut Republican, told the Globe.
U.S. Representative Frank Wolf, Republican of Virginia, called the approval process ``completely and totally out of control,'' the Globe said.
