I have been critical of the so-called "official" book in the past, both for use of that word in its title (implying IMO that the book is sanctioned by the club in some way when it is not) and for the detailed "grading" system. In my initial comments about the book, I said that I thought the purpose of the grading system was, ultimately, to facilitate slabbing and artificially higher prices for top quality chips.
The club has not sanctioned the CW book in any way and should not do so.
I am willing to propose and vote for a resolution making it clear that the "official" book does not speak for the club. I don't think the club can speak for the hobby as a whole, as we have no authority with respect to chip collectors who are not members of the club.
Otherwise, as I said in my other post, I will do whatever I can, either as an officer of the club or as an individual, to prevent the spread of chip slabbing.
