Bob; Everyone who regularly reads this bb knows full well that your philosophy is radically different than mine... and that's o.k. with me. That's what makes this such a wonderful country to live in. If we all liked the same things and all thought alike, we would be all driving the same model and color automobile, wearing the same color and style clothes, live in the same style house, married to the same woman/man, etc. Nobody is right, nobody is wrong on this issue. It's matter of choices.
No, I have not compared unionism to the Soviet Union, YOU have! You seem to have a propensity for switching gears to unrelated issues and to insert "buzzwords" in an attempt to make your points, instead of sticking to issues. Unions have contributed many meaningful benefits to every working man and woman in this country (whether they belonged to a union or not)and even whether employees are management or not. Social Security; health-care; unemployment insurance; safety compliance in the workplace; child labor laws; pensions; profit-sharing; IRA's; minimum wage; vacations; etc. are just a few benefits that most all employees enjoy. IF unions hadn't bargained with employers and pushed for legislation in these and other areas over the years, I would hate to envision what the un-organized American worker's lot would be in today's society
When you experience a loss in your business, Bob ... are you insured? Do you file a claim when you have an accident with your car, or for damages to your home? My union (when I was working) was my insurance policy.... and I'm damn glad and proud that I belonged to one. I paid dues to my union to represent me, just like most of us pay premiums to our insurance company. My experience has been that belonging to unions has been one of the best benefits and privileges I ever had while living and working in this country. You obviously feel otherwise. Good! The country needs Americans like you to express your anti-union vehement views Bob; to realize how good we really have it.
God bless America!
