I happen to occasioinally talk to the general counsel of my company, which just posted a $1 Billion dollar year. She and I have never talked postae or shipping though! <g> I reality, some items are easier to pack in priority boxes because of the ability to stuff in extra padding. Whenever I sell coin machine parts, I usually send items by priority because I don't have to rummage for a box, instead I can use a free box and the cost is no greater to the customer.
As a side note, insurance and 1st class fall apart when the insurance amount reaches about $700. At that point it is almost always better to register the parcel.
I do find it amazing that so many people can complain about shipping prices. If the price for shipping is too high, then don't bid on the item. It doesn't need to be posted for the entire world to comment on! This is a free market, and the buyer needs to factor in shipping / insurance into the price they are willing to pay. Discussing this issue over and over hasn't changed a thing, and probably will not change a thing in the future.
Just my 2 cents worth.
