The reason for your queasiness shouldn't be strange, Pete. Almost certainly a chip purchased out of maker T.R. King's vault long after it was made. Probably genuine. Most likely never in play.

I have the fax list of their inventory for sale somewhere. I'll have to try to find it again. It dates to about 5-6 years ago when I was first getting interested in chips. They would sell obsolete chips to anyone. Maybe still do. They don't make chips for gaming in Nevada anymore, either.
