E-bay and Paypay Surcharges????

Below is an edited description regarding a seller's attempt to include a partial credit card surcharge that PayPal is charging the seller.

I wonder if the same were to hold true if the seller were to attempt the same with some of the E-bay surcharges?

Looks like Paypal is starting to loose some customers.

--------------------------
Paypal is also ACCEPTED, however, if using a credit card through Paypal, a 1% surcharge will be applied to the final total auction price. This is due to the recent policy change at Paypal , charging the Seller 1.9% on CC transactions!

*GOOD LUCK*

On Nov-12-00 at 08:15:42 PST, seller added the following information:

Apparently the 1% surcharge is a problem for Ebay rules (feedback from a customer).......it will NOT apply to this auction or my others, until I get clarification, since Paypal is not A true Credit card Company! Thanks!

On Nov-13-00 at 18:42:16 PST, seller added the following information:

Apparently Ebay has a policy prohibiting the addition of a surcharge for CC usage. The surcharge is herby rescinded on this auction should you choose Paypal, or any CC transactions, which will probably cease to be an option on future auctions!!

Credit Card Surcharges

An eBay seller may not charge a fee, often called a "credit card surcharge," when accepting credit card payments. This surcharge, which is an added cost to the buyer over and above the final sale price and shipping/handling, is not allowed under the laws of many states, including California.
--------------------

Yet we still know that many sellers are adding the hidden cost of E-bay sellers fees and these surcharges inside their "shipping/handling" charges.

For example the $12 shipping charge on a set of James Bond Casino de Isthmus chips.

OOPS I've found this regarding recouping E-bay fees.

42010009 Questionable Items: Listing Policies: Fee circumvention

Listing Techniques that circumvent eBay's fee structure

Users may not use systems or techniques to interfere with the proper working of the eBay site, which includes the circumvention of the eBay fees. Some examples include:

Listings with low bid prices, but unreasonably high shipping costs

Dutch Avoidance (see description below)

Selling an item that requires an additional purchase from the seller

Items offered for direct sale (not through eBay)

Catalog sales

Listings with an e-mail address or domain name in the title

Policy: These types of listings are not permitted and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
---------------------------

In regard to that Bond Chip auction, both the Opening Bid and the Shipping costs are TOO high. For the price of shipping alone you can probably buy the chips from any dealer.
