To All,
I received Doug Saito's Chip Chat - Issue #20 - a few days ago. I have read it cover to cover and consider it one of Doug's better issues. It contains stories and chips from California, Nevada and various illegal locations.
The two articles I considered "classics" was first the article about Carl M. Strandwold, America's first chip collector. Mr. Strandwold started collecting "illegals" in 1925. I found the write up to be informative and fascinating. Someone who collected chips in 1925 - Wow!! You will enjoy this story.
The second write up involved a chip Doug has for auction. This chip is on consignment and is from a former black club in Reno - Club Harlem. It is a 25 cent, Arrow-die, blue, hot-stamped with the denomination on the reverse. I almost dropped my jaw when I saw the minimum bid. However, when I checked the "Official" I found this chip was listed as unique. Well whether this chip is one of a kind or two it's a beauty! The write up about Douglas Alley and Club Harlem was fun to read and brought this fractional honey to life.
The issue contains many, many other stories and write ups along with chips for sale. If I peaked your interest you can obtain a copy of Chip Chat issue #20 by either:

Or

Let Doug explain his policy for receiving Chip Chat. I have enough of my own problems <g>.
Best, Jim
