Well Cindy and I had another great, long weekend in Tunica, MS last week. It is especially fun when you find something new and I came back with my pockets loaded. Where to start? As far as I can tell ALL of the Silver Strike machines have been removed from Tunica (and Lula) so if you have a token from there it is obsolete. The strikes from Gold Strike were destroyed and the ones from Hollywood were sent back to the manufacturer. There are new (at least to me) roulettes at the Grand, Harrahs and Isle of Capri Lula as you can see in the scan below. There are no new house chips except at Horseshoe and Hollywood and those are only remakes of the old design. Hollywood's new $2.50 chips appear to be slight variations of the old chip - the letters in the word "CASINO" are thicker than the old chip. The souvenier chips that were sold in the Grands' gift shop are no longer available. Isle of Capri Lula still has the Ricochet table. I have not previously seen any of the slot cards or room keys shown below. I am especially curious if ANYONE has ever seen the Jubilation slot card before. Since I didn't get it at the casino I don't know if it is current. In fact I don't know if the casino is still open. You never hear anything about it. Anyway, back to Tunica. Several of the casinos are undergoing facelifts inside including, for about the sixth time, Harrahs. Caesars Sheraton is installing new slots and had about half of their floor closed. Sam's Town is getting a new entranceway and buffet on the first floor. A new buffet is ready to open at Horseshoe and I hope it is as good as the old one or the temporary one they are now using. We had the Friday nite buffet which included Crab Legs and Lobster Tails and it was great. The old was the only one in town that served free beer and wine. Since I enjoy a glass of wine with dinner it sure beats chasing down a cocktail waitress or going to the nearest bar. There were stories about a possible new casino next to Sam's Town and the boat at the old Splash location still is not operating. We did have one bit of excitement. As we approached Isle of Capri Lula I noticed a lot of smoke just to the North of the casino. Turns out that there was an explosion at a plant there and they had closed the casino and the only bridge within 50 miles until the next morning. The police turned us away because apparently there was some type of poisonous dust in the air! I was just glad that I didn't have to stand out there directing trafic. As soon as I get everything sorted out I will see what I have left to trade. Just give me a few days.
