Just came back from an extended weekend at the Golden Nugget in Laughlin.
I overheard one of the pit bosses explaning a "new" chip to one of the dealers. So I asked the pit boss where I could get one of these chips...."the only way is to pay the cover charge at Tarzan's (their very loud night club for the younger folk)". So then I tried the casino cashier, and asked if I could buy one...same answer. It so happened that I was playing blackjack later that evening when a couple of guys used these chips to place their bets....I almost jumped across the table and offered to "swap" them out. No problem, they said....and I walked away with two of them. Here's the deal: The chips are given to persons paying the cover charge, they are then used on the table games as a straight-up bet. The chips then go to the casino cage, are counted, and then back ONLY to Tarzan's (the nightclub)to be used again. Anyhow, it's a pretty chip and states it "has no cash value"...however, there is a "5" printed on the chip...and it does play as $5 at the tables. One more interesting note the chip says it is "Non-Transferable".
Anyhow, I've scanned these things if anybody is interested in seeing them. Or if anybody has any more info. about them, I'd love to hear it. Just drop me an email.
