On days when I know I can't get anything accomplished at work I head out to the local antique stores here in the Valley of the Sun (AZ). I rarely even see chips let alone find any of value. Today, tucked in the corner of one store I came across a box of coins/tokens. I asked for the case to be opened, not expecting to find anything of value in the box. I did see a wooden nickel and thought, what the heck. Anyway, after digging thru the bunch of coins I found there were two packets with wooden nickels. Hidden beneath each of them was the same chip from the Money Tree, LV. What to do? Surely these $1 chips was worth more than they were asking. I went out to my car where I keep a copy of TCR #5. I keep the newest edition at home. When I looked up the value for this chip my decision was easy. I went back to the counter where the lady was holding the chips and she asked me if I wanted the wooden nickels. Like a dummy I said, "no, but I do want the chips." She said, "that's what I mean do you want both packets." I said, "yes" realizing that she thought both items in each packet were wooden nickels. I had to break a $10 bill to buy both packets. That's what makes this hobby exciting. Does anybody want the wooden nickels? I don't do wooden nickels. First two people get them. The scan shows both sides.
I also found this large crown chip in another store. On one side are the initials "TBD" on the reverse is "MC". Anybody know anything about it. Might be from the LA Area.
