This is a subject that comes up from time to time. Some casinos seem to commemorate everything from frog warts to thursdays. Some of the millennium chip quantities were way overboard. But we need to be careful just what we condemn the casinos for. For all the crap 4 Queens takes over being a chip factory, they and Fiesta are among a VERY few casinos that ever do $1 LEs. Those chips are pretty much a gift for the collectors, and we'd do well to take them or leave them and not badmouth them. There are zero zilch none nadda $1 LEs from Reno.

At the other end of the scale, releasing a $25 or $100 LE is not a crime in and of itself. You say, "but wouldn't they be just as happy with a $1 or $5 chip commemorating the event?" No. Personally, I like to collect chips that are not in everybody else's collections. Collecting $1s is cheap and easy. Collecting $5s is obviously within the means of most of us here. Collecting $25s and $100s makes this a serious hobby, and challenging. There are some casino practices that reek of greed, but if the $5 and under collectors were able to successfully lobby the casinos and convince them to never do another $25, I'd be very disappointed. I wish there were more $25s in Reno. I think everyone should collect what they like, and the market will dictate to the casinos what the collectors want. If no one buys the chips, the casinos will stop making them.

This is our hobby, by choice. If we badmouth what other members collect, we only hurt ourselves. (This is not meant in specific, but in general. It's is not an accusation that there is "badmouthing" going on in this thread. It's just an old sore subject.)
