The Chip Board Archive 03

Welcome Bryan ...

... and to provide just a little more informtion than our pithy friend John Benedict:

>> Who produces the commemorative chips for all the closed casinos?

The group we commonly see WAS produced by Bill Borland. He has since died and (fortunately) there does not seem to be anyone else doing so at this time.

>> Why do they do that?

JB's answer to this one pretty much says it all -- to make money.

>> Are they for sale somewhere?

Other than on eBay, some chip dealers have them for sale. At one time, they were also available at the Gambler's Store in Las Vegas. I don't know if they still are or not; perhaps someone who does know can supplement this answer.

>> Given away?

No. They were (obviously) never available at the casinos and were created as a sale item.

>> Just created to cause clutter on E-bay?

Well, I guess I have to (technically) disagree with John on this one. eBay didn't even exist when these chips were created, so they couldn't have been created for sale there (clutter or otherwise). But, the DO seem to clutter up eBay on occasion.

Some shippers consider these chips collectible and I'd guess there are a few guys out there that have complete or nearly complete sets of them. Virtual guarantee that if Gene Trimble doesn't have a complete set, he's working on it! <g>

Again, welcome to the club and the board. ----- jim o\-S
