Maybe the reason those Harrah's Reno chips sell is because:

"There used to be plenty of these pocket rippers around, but now they're getting scarce. Harrah's in Reno has no more $5.00 chips like this, and these baby's will soon follow. They mostly have cheap metal $1 tokens these days."

How soon will there be no more like this? Or:

"I'm selling this one because the massive canary cartwheel is making all the other casino chips in my collection look like pogs."

How many of these "massive canary cartwheel" are you selling to make the other chips in your collection not look like pogs? Or are you selling it to make as much as someone who believes these chips, that are getting scarce, are worth?

Hopefully you'll get enough "idiots" to keep a roof over your head. But like you've said before, you introduce a lot of people to chip collecting. But that's your decision.
