I am of the opinion that the Hobby Protection Act, by its terms, does NOT apply to casino chips. The fact that we are a member club of the ANA would have absolutely no bearing on the issue. The statute defines the items which are protected and casino chips simply do not fit within the protected definitions. I have posted all this before and will look it up and repost if necessary, BUT there is no question in my mind that chips are not covered.
On the other hand, and to respond to Robert's question, I think it would be appropriate for the act to be expanded to cover casino chips (and perhaps many other collectibles, too). Not being a tax expert, I'm not sure whether lobbying on that issue would imperil our tax-exempt status. If so, I would favor any alternative approach by which individuals or any group of collectors could address modifications to the legislation which WOULD provide coverage for chips and tokens. ----- jim o\-S
