Hi Bob, Happy New Year,
Bezique is one of the older French games that sometimes come in nice chests
with markers, game pieces, cards and directions. Others are Pope Joan, Quadrille and Chemin de Fer. There is a good chapter on these in Dale Seymour's "Antique Gambling Chips".
Bezique is a card game, a precursor to bridge, as is the Englist game, Whist.I have several tab markers, such as yours made of wood, ivory, MOP, cardboard and metal. Also have a nice wooden Bezique box with 4 decks of cards without indices, 4 tab markers and a book of instructions, "The Pocket Guide to Bezique by Cavendish, author of 'The Laws and Principles of Whist,' etc. etc.; Sixteenth Edition, London, Thomas de la Rue & Co. Ltd."
I never took the time to read the book, but I will be glad to loan it to you if you are interested. Allan
