Gene; These chips were available quite a few years ago for considerably less than face value. If anyone has Bill Borlands old price lists around, I think they may have been offered at very low prices. When I purchased all of Bill Borland's Atlantic City inventory after Starr's death, there were several high denomination PB chips in the mixture. In fact, the half-dozen or so backup $2.50 Playboy's with olive letters, Bill sold to me for $8@!

The fund that the State of NJ set aside for PB redemption was not widely publicized. In fact, the name that Chuck Tomarchio had posted brought this fact to light when he indeed did present a couple of purple $500's for redemption and was given interest on top! Ever since then, I've not seen any offered for sale below face value. I don't know if the state is still redeeming them at the same terms. If so, the Ebay purchase price of the $500 chip offered may have been a bargain.
