WA Gaming Pioneer, Fred Steiner, Cashes In

Fred Steiner, who was instrumental in changing Washington gaming laws to allow non-Indian casinos, passed away August 27. He was always a gambler, often down to his last buck in the early days, but he believed in what he was doing. He opened Diamond Lil's (named for his wife), a poker room, in 1993. He opened the first non-Indian Casino, Freddie's Club in Renton, in 1997. He subsequently opened 2 additional Freddie's Clubs and owned a piece of 2 other casinos. Another Freddie's is scheduled to open in Fife this month. Mr Steiner also sponsered hydroplanes and race cars. A real gentleman and a credit to gaming is gone. Good luck Freddie.
