I ran into the same situation except the seller cancelled the auction WITHOUT first cancelling the bids. This is wrong under E-Bay rules. The seller has the right to end an auction but he MUST cancell all bids first, then ned the auction. In my case, the only thing E-Bay did was to send the seller instructions on how to end an auction properly and they advised me than under the circumstances I could leave negative feedback (which I did).
Your seller evidently cancelled the bids first (the "0" you now see in bids) and ended his auction. Maybe he was afraid he wouldn't get the value out of the chip, but many bidders don't enter a bid till right at the end. The last hour can see an auction jump a lot. If you really want the chip, make him an offer and at least see if he'll sell it. Also inquire as to why he cancelled.
