Timely concerns Travis, thanks for the reminder. Just returned from a road trip through central Oregon, the NE tip of CA. and into Reno from the Black Rock Desert, Donner Pass to the Bay and return to Portland (possible trip report after more rest!). Didn't know Steve was a firefighter and as such worthy of thanks for their service and courage. I noticed an awesome unnamed burn in central OR. in the mountains that seemed about five miles square sending a huge plume into the sky. How do you combat something like that? It would take some pondering on my part I know to approach such a scene, thankfully we have folks willing to step forward and battle. Thanks to them, they keep the roads passable in the face of the nastiness these fires throw at them. I passed several spots where the fire blasted through the timber on all sides of the road at such a velocity that the dry grass at root level was untouched! Westerners, as much as any Americans, tend to live and move about with a love of unrestricted freedom allowed by our country but we need to keep in our thoughts those who keep us safer than we can reasonable expect. Thank you sincerely.
